USES
Description

Galbanum is the “things are going to get better” essential oil. The father of ancient medicine,  Hippocrates, used it in many curative recipes.

The Ancient Egyptians used Galbanum as incense and during the embalming process. And although you may be unlikely to embalm anyone anytime soon, Galbanum does contain healing cicatrization properties which are great for the skin.

Galbanum has an aroma that is described by experts as “intensely green.” Spicy and herbal, it has been compared to green peppers and tossed salad. It has subtle piney notes mostly likely due to the presence of several pinenes.

Galbanum plants are large perennial herbs with smooth stems, shiny leaflets and small flowers. They contain resin ducts which exude a milky juice, a natural oleoresin. The dried resinous exudation is collected by making incisions at the base of the stem. Through a steam distillation process, the essential oil is extracted.
