How Cinnamon Oil Can Help Fight Superbugs

Superbugs.

While the word might evoke visions of giant insects from black-and-white sci-fi films, the superbugs we’re referring to are of the microscopic, bacterial variety. These superbugs can be destructive, but they’re also manageable with the help of some Cinnamon oil.

What Is A Superbug?

We’re glad you asked. Superbugs are broadly defined as strains of bacteria that have built up an immunity to antibiotics. Think of these germs as having hit the gym on a regular basis, and are now able to benchpress 200 pounds instead of only a hundred. There are various types of superbugs, but  Pseudomonas aeruginosaranked one of the most dangerous superbugs by the World Health Organization — is the bacteria that causes skin rashes, ear infections, pneumonia and blood infections, just to name few. Luckily, Cinnamon oil can help keep this dangerous superbug at bay.

Cinnamon, You Say?

Believe it or not, your home’s hero is Cinnamon.  Pseudomonas aeruginosa, also known as biofilm and the sticky bacteria that bonds to surfaces, is hard to treat with antibiotics. Fortunately, it’s no match for Cinnamon. Shown to disrupt the formation of this bacteria by nearly 76 percent, Cinnamon provides an easy-to-come-by solution for keeping your home and office infection-free.

So, how do you start the process of banishing these superbugs from your abode? Begin by creating a disinfectant spray of your own. Feed thirty drops of Cinnamon oil into a two-ounce spray bottle with water and 2 teaspoons of 190 proof alcohol. This can be an especially helpful concoction for bathrooms, kitchens and other high-traffic areas of your home. Spray this powerful blend to combat the superbugs that may be living scot-free in your home.  Cinnamon can be safely diffused alone in intervals of 30-60 minutes and using the recommended 10-15 drops. This is another good way to fend off superbugs.

Ridding the world of superbugs may be impossible, but keeping them under control doesn’t require superhuman strength and a cape — only some Cinnamon oil.

Note:  Cinnamon essential oil is extremely potent and must be used with care. For topical use for adults, we recommend a maximum dilution of .6% for Cinnamon Leaf and .07% for Cinnamon Bark. Please keep in mind, Edens Garden does not recommend internal use unless you've consulted with a doctor and aromatherapist. It's recommended that you use a glass or PET plastic spray bottle for containing essential oils or essential oil products.
