Tidy Up: Spring Clean Car DIY
If you’ve been waiting for motivation to start cleaning your car, here it is. Your commute to work shouldn’t be more stressful due to the clutter that has made your car into a second closet. The windshields should not be saying “clean me,” and don’t forget that banana peel in the back seat you meant to pick up a week ago.
At one time, you were excited to get this car and wouldn’t let a single smudge on the window get past you. Now, it’s been weeks since you’ve had a car wash. If this sounds like you, here are some motivational car cleaning tips.
Declutter
First thing’s first, take out everything from your car that does not belong there. Clothes, trash, Tupperware, kid’s toys, books and blankets generally fall under the unnecessary car items category. Keep things like napkins, tissues and emergency items such as flashlights and pepper spray.
Clean
Taking your car to the car wash is optional, but if you choose to do it yourself, here are some easy tips to do so.
Exterior: Take a hose, a bucket of soapy water, some old rags and towels and get to it. Start by hosing down the car, then dip the rags in soapy water and give the car body, windows and rims a good scrub down. Hose again, and towel dry.
Interior: You may need some damp rags, a hand vacuum, and toothbrush for this part. Wipe away dust using a damp rag. For marks and spills, scrub them away using a rag. Remove floor mats, and vacuum seats and floors. Regular floor mats may be washed in the washer machine and rubber floor mats may be hosed down. After washing, allow floor mats to air dry. Wipe down seats using a rag and scrub out stains in fabric seats using a rag and soapy water. Use a toothbrush to remove dust and dirt from nooks such as air vents and stereos.

DIY Window Cleaner
To that bug that hit your windshield right after a car wash, this DIY’s for you. Store this easy-to-make window cleaner in your car, and give your windows a little TLC every now and then to keep your ride looking cleaner, longer.
3 oz Distilled Water
1 oz Vinegar
10 drops Lemon Tea Tree
10 drops Juniper Berry
4 oz spray bottle
Add ingredients to your spray bottle and shake before using. Spray a liberal amount onto car windows and wipe away spots and specks with a cloth.
