What Is The Value Of Hand-Pouring Essential Oils?

At Edens Garden, we put hard work and dedication into every step of the process, which is why we hand pour our oils. The value of hand-pouring goes beyond giving each Edens Garden essential oil a personal touch.

Read on to find out why we’ve continued to pour and bottle our oils by hand since our inception in 2009.

Why We Hand-Pour

In a world quickly becoming run by machines, there are still areas where we feel people are irreplaceable, and hand-pouring our oils is one of them. Here’s why.

Quality Check

Our oils go through various quality checks, and by hand-pouring, we ensure that aroma, viscosity and overall quality are all intact, right down to the moment your oil is bottled. This final check allows us to send off your Edens Garden products with confidence.

Consistency

This final checkpoint allows us to check that each of our synergy blends has a consistent oil ratio and aroma. While the aroma of single essential oils can vary slightly depending on factors such as time of harvest, rainfall, the pH of the soil, etc., we do check that the quality of our single essential oils’ aroma is up to par with our rigorous quality standards.

Volume

Lastly, we want to ensure that you’re getting what you paid for. When hand-pouring and bottling, we check that the volume of each oil is accurate through the use of various measurement devices and scales.

Quality Assurance

Hand-pouring is one of the last steps in the process of ensuring that our products are of the highest quality available. Here’s an outline of what that process looks like.

  • Sourcing: Great oils begin at the source. This is why we source each of our essential oils from reputable farms and distilleries, around the world. Our suppliers must meet our many standards for quality oils, as well as put their people and plants above profit.

  • GC/MS Testing: A sample of each oil is then sent to a laboratory to be tested using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS). These tests reveal each natural component an oil contains, as well as if there are any pesticides, contaminants, synthetics or other unwanted chemicals present.

  • Analysis: After an oil is GC/MS tested, industry-leading essential oil chemists and aromatherapists review the test to ensure that the oil is 100% pure and matches the quality standards of a benchmark oil.

  • Refractive Index Testing: A sample of each oil is tested using a refractive index. Refractive index testing involves a ray of light passing through the oil sample. The oil sample bends or refracts, the light. The light refraction is then measured. Each oil has a standard refractive index. If an oil does not meet that standard, this may mean that the oil is adulterated.

  • Specific Gravity Testing: A sample of each oil’s specific gravity is measured. The specific gravity of an oil is determined by comparing the oil’s density to the density of water. Just as with refractive index testing, each oil has a standard specific gravity. An oil that does not meet this standard could mean that the oil is adulterated.

  • Organoleptic Testing: Organoleptic testing involves evaluating the oil’s aroma, color and viscosity and comparing these characteristics to other benchmark oils.

  • Hand-Pouring: Hand-pouring allows us to double-check that all organoleptic quality standards are met before each bottle is sealed.

Sanitation

These days, sanitation is everything. While our sanitation procedures have always been extensive, we’ve expanded on our cleaning procedures and frequency for the health and safety of our employees, as well as for our customer’s conscience.

All of our equipment is sanitized before and after pouring and bottling to eliminate cross-contamination, pathogens and the spread of bacteria.

Tips For Hand-Pouring

Hand-pouring your oils at home? Take it from us, this is a great way to get acquainted with the quality and consistency of your oil. We recommend using the right equipment and sanitizing your supplies beforehand.

Our favorite tool for bottling oils at home is our pipettes. Small, easy to fill and transfer your oils, our pipettes are the perfect tool for bottling at home. What’s more, each pipette includes measurements in the form of milliliters on the side so you can measure and fill your oils with precision.

Easy Essential Oil Tonic Diffuser Blend

Put your pipette skills to the test with our Easy Essential Oil Tonic blend. Tonics have been used for centuries to help aid many conditions and promote health, and this blend is no different. For this project, you’ll need some pipettes and an empty 5 ml amber glass bottle.

What You Need

Transfer your blend to an empty 5 ml bottle using your pipettes. Add 10-15 drops to your essential oil diffuser whenever needed.
